Holiday on the North Sea or Baltic Sea?
The biggest and most obvious differences between
North Sea and
Baltic Sea are the dikes and tides of the North Sea.
The dikes are a reminder that they protect the hinterland from flooding during storm tides in spring and autumn.
The tides of low and high tide let the sea water rise and fall about twice a day.
At low tide, the
mudflats become visible and invite to
mudflat walks into a
nature paradise that can be walked on only for a short time.
At the
Baltic Sea on the other hand, sea level and
bathing possibilities remain constant throughout the day.
There are certainly many other small differences.
For example, wind and weather at the North Sea are often more intensively influenced by the
sea climate.
The seagulls there seem to be more numerous and cheekier, their screeching louder and more mysterious than at the Baltic Sea.
